Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science Celebrates the Glorious October Victory with a Seminar Entitled “Heroes of the Sea and Makers of Victory”
As part of Alexandria University’s celebrations of the Glorious October Victory, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science organized on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, a seminar entitled “Heroes of the Sea and Makers of Victory.”
The seminar hosted Rear Admiral Omar Ezz El-Din and Rear Admiral Nabil Abdel Wahab, two of the heroic figures of the Egyptian Navy.
The seminar opened with a speech by Dr. Shereen Adel Nosseir, Acting Dean of the Faculty, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and emphasized that this event comes within the comprehensive educational and awareness-raising mission of Alexandria University to acquaint its students with Egypt’s glorious history and the heroic sacrifices of its men who embodied the highest meanings of loyalty, devotion, and patriotism.
She noted that October 6, 1973, marks a defining moment in Egypt’s modern history, when the Egyptian Armed Forces wrote—through the blood and valor of their soldiers—an immortal epic of glory and dignity, reflecting unwavering determination and the will to reclaim the homeland’s honor and land.
The seminar was moderated by Dr. Ahmed El-Hamrawy, Lecturer of Political Science at the Faculty, who stressed that this event is not merely a commemoration of a cherished national anniversary, but also a renewal of the nation’s pledge to continue safeguarding its land and building its future. He highlighted the pivotal role played by the Egyptian Navy in achieving victory through meticulous planning, courageous execution, and great sacrifice, before presenting the distinguished biographies of the honored guests.
In his address, Rear Admiral Omar Ezz El-Din reviewed the heroic stages leading up to the October victories, affirming that the triumph was the result of a long journey of perseverance and bravery that began with the War of Attrition, which marked a turning point after the setback of 1967. He referred to the Battle of Ras El-Esh as the first sign of Egyptian resilience, followed by the naval missile boat operations that culminated in the destruction of the Israeli destroyer Eilat on October 21, 1967, delivering a powerful blow to the enemy and restoring national pride.
Meanwhile, Rear Admiral Nabil Abdel Wahab discussed the major naval operations carried out against Eilat Port, shedding light on the bravery of the Egyptian frogmen in the raids of November 8 and 15, 1969, and recounting the heroic story of Martyr Mohamed Fawzy El-Barqouky, who chose to embrace martyrdom rather than withdraw and leave his comrades behind. He also detailed the devastating impact of these operations on the enemy’s fleet and port facilities, which inflicted heavy losses on Israel.
Admiral Abdel Wahab further emphasized that victory was not achieved by weaponry alone, but through the faith, conviction, and combat spirit deeply rooted in the Egyptian soldier’s heart—fighting for a just cause, with unshakable belief in God and love for the homeland—which made all the difference in the battles of liberation.
The seminar witnessed a wide turnout of faculty members, teaching assistants, and students, who interacted enthusiastically with the speakers and engaged in a lively discussion, to which the naval heroes responded with appreciation and pride.
The event concluded with an affirmation that the October Victory will forever remain a symbol of national pride and an everlasting source of inspiration for generations to come in Egypt’s ongoing journey of progress and development.
Faculty of Medicine” Launches Comprehensive Medical Convoy to Serve King Mariout Residents
As part of Alexandria University’s community engagement role, and in continuation of the Faculty of Medicine’s efforts to support healthcare services in underserved areas, the Faculty launched a comprehensive medical convoy yesterday (Friday) to serve the residents of King Mariout. This comes under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, and under the supervision of Dr. Affaf Al-Oufy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.
The convoy was organized in cooperation with the Faculties of Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Nursing, the Medical Research Institute, and the Anti-Violence Unit, in partnership with “Hayah Volunteering Foundation,” with distinguished participation from university students and the “Doctor for You” student family, reflecting a strong spirit of teamwork and institutional integration.
Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, he added that the convoy witnessed active participation of 65 students from the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, along with 17 specialized physicians across seven medical specialties, a number of nursing staff, and 10 medical interns.
Dr. Mohamed Sedka, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development, stated that the convoy successfully provided medical services to 1,021 patients across various specialties. These included: 203 pediatrics cases, 99 internal medicine, 111 dermatology, 33 chest diseases, 67 ENT, 150 ophthalmology, 15 general surgery, 88 obstetrics and gynecology, 140 orthopedics, and 115 dental cases.
Free medications were dispensed to all patients, and 156 cases requiring surgical intervention or advanced investigations were referred to university hospitals for further diagnosis and treatment.
Regarding awareness activities, Dr. Sedka noted that the Anti-Violence Unit organized an educational seminar targeting children and local residents to promote community awareness and positive behaviors.
Dr. Alaa El-Din Abdallah, Coordinator of Medical Convoys at the Faculty of Medicine, pointed out that medical interns followed up on the referred cases to ensure continuity of care and completion of treatment plans. He added that these efforts reaffirm Alexandria University’s leading role in community service and its active contribution to improving quality of life and public health.

The High Institute of Public Health Organizes the Workshop “Diabetes and Ramadan – Egypt 2026” in Cooperation with DaR Association
Under the auspices of Prof. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the High Institute of Public Health, in cooperation with the Diabetes Association for Research and Care (DaR), organized a scientific workshop entitled “Diabetes and Ramadan – Egypt 2026”, on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
The workshop was organized under the supervision and attendance of Prof. Heba El-Qady, Dean of the High Institute of Public Health; Prof. Zeinab Sheta, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Prof. Nashwa Azzam, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
The workshop brought together a distinguished group of experts and specialists in the field of diabetes from Egypt and abroad. Participants included Prof. Mohamed Hassanein, Professor of Endocrinology at Mohammed Bin Rashid University in Dubai and President of the International Diabetes and Ramadan Alliance, and Prof. Osama Hamdy, Professor of Internal Medicine and Diabetes at Harvard University, USA.
From the High Institute of Public Health, Prof. Ahmed Mandil, Professor of Epidemiology, and Dr. Rana Emara, Assistant Professor of Nutrition, participated. From the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, Prof. Samir Assad, Professor of Internal Medicine and Diabetes, attended, along with Prof. Magdy Megalla, Head of the Diabetes Unit, and Prof. Tamer El-Sherbiny, Professor and Head of the Endocrinology Unit.
The workshop also included the participation of Dr. Baha Sharaf El-Din, Diabetes Consultant, representing the Ministry of Health and Population, and Prof. Magdy Ashour, former Scientific Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and Religious Advisor to the Minister of Social Solidarity, who presented the religious and jurisprudential perspectives related to fasting for patients with diabetes.
A large number of physicians and specialists from various medical disciplines attended the workshop, aiming to exchange expertise and learn about the latest advanced therapeutic recommendations for optimal diabetes management during the month of Ramadan, as well as supporting patients in making sound health decisions while fasting.
The workshop addressed specialized advice for patients with diabetes on how to control the disease and adhere to healthy lifestyle practices during fasting. It also provided attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with diabetes experts, and to gain health and nutritional information that supports achieving a balanced and healthy lifestyle not only during Ramadan but throughout the year.
In addition, the workshop presented important guidelines on overcoming health challenges that patients with diabetes may face while fasting. These included advice on healthy habits, recommended food choices, appropriate portion sizes, and suitable meal timings, as well as raising awareness of the main health risks that may occur during fasting and the potential benefits of fasting for patients with diabetes.
The sessions also highlighted the importance of blood glucose monitoring during Ramadan, dietary plans suitable for patients with diabetes, adjusting diabetes medications during fasting, and managing chronic conditions associated with diabetes such as heart, kidney, and endocrine diseases. Furthermore, the workshop discussed religious perspectives and key Islamic rulings related to fasting in general, with special emphasis on concerning patients with diabetes.
Students of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science Awarded Sawiris Scholarship to Study at the University of Chicago
In a new achievement reflecting the excellence of Alexandria University students, student Youssef Osama Sadiq and student Bahira Ahmed El-Sheshtawy from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science have been awarded the Sawiris Foundation Scholarship to study at the University of Chicago in the United States for one academic year.
Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim stated that this success comes within the framework of the university’s strategy to enhance international cooperation, support outstanding students, and provide them with opportunities to gain global educational experiences that contribute to developing their skills and building their future capacities. He wished them continued success and excellence during their studies abroad.
Dr. Sherine Adel Nossier, Acting Dean of the Faculty, also congratulated the two students, praising their academic excellence and their ability to compete in prestigious international programs. She emphasized that this achievement reflects the quality of the faculty’s educational and research processes and confirms its ability to prepare qualified graduates capable of competing at the international level, Dr. Sherine Nossier added that the faculty remains committed to providing full support to its students and encouraging them to apply for international scholarships and programs, contributing to the graduation of a generation capable of creativity, innovation, and global competitiveness.
