As part of Alexandria University’s commitment to enhancing national awareness among its students, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces, in cooperation with the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science, organized an educational lecture entitled “Regional Challenges and Their Impact on Egyptian National Security and Mechanisms of Confrontation.”

The lecture was delivered by Major General (Staff) Dr. Bahgat Mohamed Farid, former Director of the National Defense College, and was attended by faculty members and a large number of students.

During the lecture, Major General Dr. Bahgat Mohamed Farid presented a comprehensive analytical overview addressing the concepts of the state and national security, the risks of non-traditional warfare and fifth-generation wars, and the most prominent internal and external threats and their direct and indirect impacts on Egyptian national security, as well as mechanisms for confrontation and response. He emphasized that societal awareness—particularly among university youth—constitutes the first line of defense against these challenges, noting that universities represent a source of soft power and a beacon of enlightened thought capable of confronting current threats.

For her part, Dr. Marwa Khalil, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science for Education and Student Affairs, stressed the importance of building national awareness among students and benefiting from the expertise of national leaders. She affirmed that Egypt faces ongoing challenges from parties seeking to undermine its stability; however, the awareness of youth and their loyalty to the homeland remain the safety valve and the solid fortress against such challenges. She added that the role of the university has gone beyond academic education to include shaping awareness and building individuals capable of protecting their country and contributing positively to serving their community.

Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department at Alexandria University, also praised the active role of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science in strengthening cooperation with the General Command of Military Education, in a manner that contributes to achieving the goals of national and patriotic awareness.

This event comes as part of a series of seminars and educational programs implemented by Alexandria University in cooperation with the Military Education Department, aimed at reinforcing the concepts of national security and instilling the values of belonging and national loyalty among students, reflecting the pioneering role of Egyptian universities in serving the nation and building the individual.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated graduates of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science on their selection to work as Diplomatic Attachés at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, praising this distinguished achievement which reflects the excellence of the university’s graduates, their academic competence, and their ability to represent Egypt in international forums in the best possible manner.

Dr. Sherine Adel Nossier, Dean of the Faculty, also extended her congratulations, emphasizing that this excellence is the result of sustained effort and solid academic preparation within the faculty. She noted the faculty’s constant commitment to preparing distinguished cadres who possess political and economic awareness and the capability to perform diplomatic work with efficiency and professionalism, thereby contributing to the support of the Egyptian state’s foreign policy and the service of its national interests.

Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President of Alexandria University for Education and Student Affairs, witnessed Wednesday evening the inauguration ceremony of the Third International Conference on Pharmaceutical Sciences and Health Care 2024 - PHS, which is organized by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University, over the course of two days, October 23 and 24.
 
 
 
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Hisham Saeed, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Hanan Geweli, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Yasser Refaat, former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Wael Aql, President of Nile University, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, President of Pharos University, Dr. Yasser El-Sonbaty, Vice President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, as well as a number of vice presidents of universities and faculty members of faculties of pharmacy in Egyptian and Arab universities.

During his speech, Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen stressed that Alexandria University pays great attention to scientific conferences that would improve the outputs of scientific research at Alexandria University, noting that the conference is one of the largest international conferences for pharmaceutical and health sciences held in Egypt, and is attended by major pharmaceutical and health sector companies, as it includes an elite group of researchers from Egypt and several Arab and foreign countries. He added that Alexandria University seeks to link the outputs of scientific research to industry through its interest in all related parties, supporting ideas and innovations and employing them to serve and develop the industrial sector within society. Dr. Abdelmohsen stressed that he hopes that the conference will come out with recommendations that contribute to supporting the sector and developing pharmaceutical education and pharmaceutical services, developing pharmaceutical industries and drug discovery research.

While Dr. Hanan Geweli, Dean of the Faculty, confirmed that this conference is one of the largest international conferences held in Egypt and the Middle East and aims to exchange ideas, share innovations, and present the latest scientific research in the field of pharmacy. It also aims to identify the most important growing health care needs in society, calling for coming out with distinguished recommendations and results to serve the pharmacy sector in Egypt and the Middle East.
 
 
 
Dr. Sherif Rostom, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, pointed out that the conference will be attended by a group of prominent speakers, scientists, industry leaders, researchers, businessmen and students. The conference program will witness 13 sessions including 35 scientific lectures and 3 workshops presented by 23 Egyptian scientists in addition to 15 international speakers from Algeria, Canada, China, the United States of America, France, the Netherlands, England, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar. It is worth noting that the conference witnessed the establishment of a distinguished exhibition that includes 20 of the largest pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers, medical institutions and community partners.

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Medicine organized yesterday, Saturday, September 27, 2025, a celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the French Section and the graduation of 12 classes of its students. The event was held at the Grand Conference Hall.

The celebration was attended by Prof. Dr. . Tamer Abdullah, Acting Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Eman Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, several former presidents of Alexandria University, program coordinators, as well as a large gathering of faculty members and students.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Abdullah emphasized that the celebration reflects the Faculty’s pride in establishing the first French Section of Medicine in Egypt and the academic achievements it has accomplished over two decades. He highlighted its role in strengthening international cooperation with French-speaking Nile Basin countries through scholarships offered by Egypt, as well as in attracting international francophone students, thereby contributing to supporting the national economy.

For her part, Prof. Dr. Eman Youssef explained that the Faculty is working to renew and activate cooperation agreements with major French universities such as Lyon, Toulouse, Marseille, and Nice, with the aim of developing students’ skills and transferring academic expertise. She added that the French Section has contributed to graduating distinguished doctors both inside and outside Egypt, and that several of its graduates have joined the Faculty’s teaching staff.

The event concluded with honoring the founding professors and pioneers by presenting them with commemorative shields in recognition of their contributions and efforts over the past twenty years.

Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, accompanied Dr. Cyril Clark, Executive Vice President and Academic Director of Virginia Tech University, and his accompanying delegation, during their visit to the Centres of Excellence at the Faculty of Medicine, in the presence of Dr. Ali Abdelmohsen, Acting Vice President for Education and Student Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs, and Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development.
 
 
 
During the visit, the delegation inspected the Alexandria University Centre for Medical Training and saw the experimental medical operating room on animals. It also inspected the Medical Research Center, which includes the Regenerative Medicine Research and Applications Unit, and the Clinical Research Center, where clinical research is conducted in cooperation with many research centers in the world. The delegation expressed great interest in cooperation in these research areas through these centers. A presentation was also made about the Clinical Genomics Centre at the Faculty and the effective participation of this centre in the Egyptian Genome Project.
 
 
 
For its part, the American delegation praised the distinguished level of medical devices and modern technologies used in training and medical research, which are in line with the best international standards in this field.
