Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Organizes the First Scientific Symposium of the Parasitology Department under the Title “One Health and Parasites”
Under the auspices of Prof. Ahmed Abdel Hakim, Acting President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine organized the First Scientific Symposium of the Parasitology Department on Saturday, April 11, 2026, under the title: “One Health and Parasites.”
The symposium was held in collaboration with the Parasitology Departments at the Faculties of Medicine and Science, the Medical Research Institute, and the High Institute of Public Health, reflecting interdisciplinary integration and reinforcing the “One Health” concept, which links human, animal, and environmental health.
During the opening session, Prof. Mahmoud El-Maghraby, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, emphasized the importance of integrating scientific and research efforts to address health challenges, particularly parasitic diseases. He stressed the need to adopt a collaborative, interdisciplinary scientific approach to achieve a more comprehensive understanding of diseases and their control mechanisms. He also noted that the “One Health” concept represents a modern and holistic approach to health issues, supporting prevention and control of zoonotic diseases.
In the same context, the Dean delivered an awareness message on the importance of rationalizing energy consumption, emphasizing that, in light of current challenges, it is no longer optional but a national responsibility and a civilized practice that reflects awareness and contributes to resource sustainability and development.
The symposium witnessed a distinguished scientific atmosphere, highlighting the importance of collaboration and exchange of expertise among the university’s faculties and institutes.
It also opened broader prospects for future scientific cooperation, with aspirations to extend such collaboration to other Egyptian universities, contributing to the preparation of qualified research and medical professionals capable of adopting an integrated approach and addressing contemporary health challenges.
At the conclusion of the event, the Dean expressed his appreciation to the sponsoring entities and companies whose financial and logistical support contributed to the success of the symposium and its distinguished organization, without placing any financial burden on the University or the Faculty, in line with expenditure rationalization policies and optimal utilization of available resources.
Faculty of Nursing Organizes a Scientific Forum Celebrating World Health Day Under the Theme “Our Health Is Not Separate… It Is One Story”
As part of Alexandria University’s celebrations of World Health Day, and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Adel Abdel Hakim, Acting President of the University, the Faculty of Nursing organized a distinguished scientific forum at the Conference Hall (Blue Hall), in collaboration with faculties of the health sector (Medicine – Pharmacy – Veterinary Medicine – Dentistry – High Institute of Public Health).
Prof. Dr. Hanan Hosny El-Sherbiny, Dean of the Faculty, stated that the forum was held under the theme: “Our Health Is Not Separate… It Is One Story,” reflecting an integrated approach to promoting the “One Health” concept, which is based on the close interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health, in support of building a more efficient and sustainable healthcare system. She added that organizing such scientific forums aligns with the faculty’s core role in raising health awareness and fostering integration across disciplines, contributing to the development of healthcare services and the improvement of quality of life, as well as supporting and activating student activities as a platform for building comprehensive health awareness among students.
For her part, Prof. Dr. Sahar Mansour Lammadah, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among various health sectors to activate the “One Health” approach. She noted that addressing contemporary health challenges requires cross-disciplinary cooperation, in addition to adopting sustainable practices—foremost among them rationalizing resource consumption and enhancing efficiency in their use.
The forum featured a rich scientific program with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members and experts. The sessions addressed several key topics, including: the role of preventive healthcare in reducing disease burden, mechanisms for excellence in interdisciplinary work, the role of nursing as a linking element in implementing the “One Health” concept, the impact of climate change on community health, the importance of animal health as the first line of defense for human health, as well as the effect of oral health on overall health.
The event concluded with an emphasis on the need to strengthen cooperation and integration among various disciplines and health sectors to support the achievement of sustainable development goals and enhance the quality of healthcare services provided to the community, while underscoring the importance of continuously activating student activities in spreading health awareness and promoting community engagement, alongside the Faculty of Nursing’s ongoing commitment to adopting scientific and community initiatives that reinforce the university’s role in serving society.
Alexandria University Faculty of Medicine Launches Comprehensive Medical Convoy to Serve the Vocational Rehabilitation Center in El-Syouf
As part of Alexandria University’s societal role in supporting the local community and serving the most vulnerable areas, and under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Faculty of Medicine launched an extensive medical convoy to the Vocational Rehabilitation Center in El-Syouf to provide healthcare and therapeutic services.
The convoy coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. It included participation from the Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Medical Research Institute, High Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Early Childhood Education, Faculty of Girls’ Physical Education, and the Rotary Club—reflecting an exemplary model of institutional cooperation and joint efforts in community service.
Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, and Rapporteur of the University’s Convoys Committee, confirmed that the convoy successfully provided comprehensive medical services to 361 cases across various specialties, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dentistry, ENT, Orthopedics, Chest Diseases, and Dermatology. He added that all medications were provided free of charge, and 35 cases requiring advanced follow-up were referred to the Main University Hospital for further examinations and necessary treatment.
It is worth noting that organizing such convoys reaffirms the university’s humanitarian and societal mission to provide high-quality healthcare services and promote health awareness among citizens. The university continues to implement its medical convoys regularly to deliver services across different areas of the governorate.
Awareness Seminar at the Faculty of Physical Education on Occupational Health and Safety Rules in Sports Facilities at Alexandria University
Under the patronage of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, and the supervision of Dr. Afaf Khamis Ibrahim, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Sport Sciences for Girls, in cooperation with the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit, organized an awareness seminar entitled: "Occupational Health and Safety Rules in Sports Facilities." The event was attended by Dr. Doaa El-Dardiri Abou El-Hassan, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Sabrine Atiya Mersal, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.
This seminar comes within Alexandria University's keenness to promote a culture of occupational safety and apply quality standards across its facilities, ensuring a safe environment that supports the educational process and sports activities, and achieves the highest levels of security and safety for all.
The seminar was delivered by Dr. Nadia Lotfy Abdel Fattah, Professor of Sports Management and Executive Director of the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit at the faculty. She provided a specialized presentation supported by practical examples that contribute to creating a safe environment in sports facilities. At the end of the seminar, a discussion session was held, allowing participants to ask questions and further enrich the event.
Dr. Doaa El-Dardiri Abou El-Hassan, Dean of the Faculty, explained that the seminar aimed at raising awareness of occupational safety principles in sports facilities and enhancing protection against potential risks. The seminar addressed the importance of implementing occupational health and safety regulations, mechanisms for applying them within sports environments, and identifying potential risks that may face workers and facility users, as well as the necessary protection and prevention procedures. She also emphasized that the faculty will continue to organize seminars and training programs to support community awareness of safety issues and prepare qualified cadres capable of managing risks and handling emergencies professionally and in accordance with international standards.
Dr. Sabrine Atiya Mersal stressed that the faculty attaches great importance to occupational health and safety topics, noting that such events contribute to building an aware university community capable of protecting its human resources and ensuring the safety of its facilities.
Vice President of Alexandria University Inaugurates the Fourth Annual Conference of the Medical Research Center at the Faculty of Medicine
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, Dr. Afaf El-Oufi, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, inaugurated the Fourth Annual Conference of the Medical Research Center, held at Dr. Abdelaziz Bilal Hall at the Faculty of Medicine.
The conference was attended by Dr. Tamer Abdallah, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Iman Youssef, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs; Dr. Radwa Mehanna, Professor of Medical Physiology, Director of the Medical Research Center, and Chair of the Conference; and Dr. Ola Sharaki, Professor of Clinical Pathology and Honorary President of the Conference, in addition to a distinguished group of faculty members, researchers, and several chairpersons of pharmaceutical companies.
In her speech, Dr. Afaf El-Oufi emphasized the importance of the conference and its role in highlighting the latest advancements in modern medical research. She noted that the conference serves as a significant scientific platform for presenting research outcomes that contribute to patient care and the development of the healthcare system. She also praised the faculty’s support for young researchers by providing them with opportunities to present their work to senior professors and experts, enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expanding scientific cooperation between research and medical institutions. She confirmed that the conference’s outcomes are expected to contribute to improving public health and aligning education outputs with labor market needs in medical and technological fields.
For his part, Dr. Tamer Abdallah explained that research centers at the Faculty of Medicine represent a fundamental pillar in the college’s development. He noted that the Faculty attaches particular importance to centers such as the Medical Research Center, the Clinical Research Center, and the Genomics Research Laboratory, and works to continuously support them so they remain capable of producing high-quality research that contributes to early diagnosis, treatment, and innovation in modern healthcare technologies.
Meanwhile, Dr. Radwa Mehanna reviewed the most notable achievements of the Medical Research Center during 2025, highlighting that the center consists of 12 laboratories and a Center of Excellence for Regenerative Medicine Research. She added that the center succeeded in publishing more than 80 scientific papers in international journals, in addition to 165 master's and doctoral theses and 13 research projects. She also noted that five researchers were honored for obtaining the American Board Diploma in Regenerative Medicine from the Center of Excellence, which serves as the official authorized representative for training and awarding the diploma in Egypt.
In her remarks, Dr. Ola Sharaki expressed her appreciation to all researchers, organizers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of the conference, praising the efforts made to develop the Medical Research Center so it may continue its vital role in delivering pioneering medical research that enhances diagnostic accuracy and improves treatment effectiveness.
The conference concluded with an honoring ceremony for several former directors of the Medical Research Center and distinguished researchers, in recognition of their contributions to supporting and advancing education and scientific research at the university. The event ended in a celebratory atmosphere reflecting pride in the remarkable research achievements at the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University.
