Popular and Military Defense Forces Highlight National Security Challenges at Alexandria University
As part of Alexandria University’s commitment to strengthening national awareness among its students, and under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of the University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces, in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts, organized an educational lecture entitled “The Egyptian State’s Vision on the Challenges Facing National Security.” The event was attended by Dr. Nevine Gharib, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department at the university, and Lieutenant Colonel Shehab El-Din Magdy, Deputy Director.
The lecture was delivered by Brigadier General Dr. Engineer Wael El-Abd, who reviewed the most pressing challenges to national security, foremost among them cross-border threats and the dangers they pose to the stability of the state. He emphasized that recognizing the magnitude of these challenges requires integrated practical measures to enhance the state’s ability to safeguard its resources.
El-Abd pointed to a set of necessary measures to address these challenges, including: tightening border control, recognizing the implications of proximity to conflict zones, monitoring the moves of major powers with expansionist tendencies, accurate tracking of migration flows, enforcing field and developmental control over remote areas, raising public awareness to counter disinformation and rumors, ensuring every citizen holds an official ID card, and maintaining constant monitoring and analysis of both local and international media trends.
For her part, Dr. Nevine Gharib stressed that such educational meetings contribute to raising students’ awareness of national issues and instilling in them a deep sense of belonging, enabling them to confront extremist ideologies and smear campaigns.
In his remarks, Colonel Mohamed Maher explained that the university, in cooperation with the Popular and Military Defense Forces, is working to build genuine awareness among students and connect them with national issues, emphasizing that national security begins within the walls of the university as the cradle of minds and gateway to the future.
The event concluded by affirming that safeguarding national security is a shared responsibility that requires citizen awareness, institutional cooperation, and collective action to protect the homeland and preserve its resources in the face of diverse challenges.
Presidential Decree Appointing Dr.Nivin Gharib as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts
Dr. Abdel Aziz Konswa, President of Alexandria University, congratulated Dr.Nivin Gharib Rezk on the occasion of the issuance of the presidential decree appointing her as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, wishing her success and continued efforts to raise the level of the Faculty, and stressing the provision of all support and assistance to her for her success in performing her mission.
Faculty of Pharmacy Holds Educational Lecture on "Regional Challenges and Their Impact on Egyptian National Security"
As part of Alexandria University's commitment to enhancing national awareness and fostering a sense of belonging among its students, and under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Popular and Military Defense Forces, represented by the Military Education Department in cooperation with the Faculty of Pharmacy, organized an educational lecture on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, entitled: "Regional Challenges and Their Impact on Egyptian National Security", delivered by Major General Dr. Bahgat Mohamed Farid.
The event was attended by Dr. Hanan El-Goweily, Dean of the Faculty, along with faculty vice deans, staff members, and a large group of students.
Major General Dr. Bahgat Mohamed Farid delivered a comprehensive analytical presentation highlighting the most pressing current regional challenges and their direct and indirect impacts on Egypt’s national security. He emphasized that societal awareness—especially among university youth—is the first line of defense against the threats posed by unconventional warfare. He noted that universities serve as beacons of enlightened thought capable of confronting such threats.
In her speech, Dr. Hanan El-Goweily stressed the importance of cultivating national awareness among students, pointing out that Egypt continuously faces challenges from forces aiming to undermine its stability. However, the awareness and loyalty of young people remain the strongest shield in confronting these challenges. She added that the university is no longer merely an educational institution, but has become a platform for shaping consciousness and building individuals capable of protecting the nation and positively engaging with societal issues.
Colonel Mohamed Maher, Director of the Military Education Department at Alexandria University, praised the role of the Faculty of Pharmacy in enhancing collaboration with the General Command of Military Education, contributing to the achievement of strategic national and patriotic awareness goals.
This event is part of a series of lectures and programs implemented by Alexandria University in cooperation with the Military Education Department, aimed at strengthening the values of national belonging and instilling the concept of national security among students, reflecting the leading role of Egyptian universities in serving national causes and building the human capacity of the nation.
Engineering Students Conclude International Summer Training Program at the University of Louisville, USA
Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, six students from the Faculty of Engineering successfully concluded their distinguished participation in the International Summer Training Program at the University of Louisville, USA, which has been organized for the fourth consecutive year as part of the academic partnership between the two universities.
The University President emphasized that this international partnership reflects Alexandria University’s commitment to providing its students with global educational and research opportunities, enhancing their academic and professional competitiveness, and preparing them for leadership and excellence in various fields of advanced engineering.
Prof. Walid Abdel Azim, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, pointed out that the program is considered one of the most prominent research training initiatives for undergraduate students in the Middle East. It provided participants with a unique opportunity to engage in applied research projects within the University of Louisville’s advanced laboratories, under the direct supervision of leading American professors and scientists.
This year’s cohort included students from Chemical Engineering, Computer and Communications Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, Gas and Petrochemicals Engineering, and Electromechanical Engineering. During the closing ceremony, students presented research projects that demonstrated their creativity and ability to engage with international scientific environments—earning praise from University of Louisville leaders, including Prof. Emmanuel Collins, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Ayman El-Baz, Chair of the Department of Bioengineering; and Prof. Thomas Rockaway, Professor of Civil Engineering and Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
This participation comes within the framework of an extended partnership between the two universities, which includes:
Dual Degree Program (2+2): offering Engineering students the opportunity to earn a double bachelor’s degree from both universities in all engineering majors. Last year, the first cohort in Biomedical Engineering graduated after seven students successfully completed their studies at the University of Louisville.
Joint Master’s Program: allowing students to complete 6 credit hours during their undergraduate studies at Alexandria University, then transfer to the University of Louisville to complete 24 credit hours and obtain a Master of Science in Engineering degree.
Workshop at Faculty of Education on Utilizing the Egyptian Knowledge Bank Activities
In line with the directives of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, to enhance the skills of researchers and faculty members in handling digital knowledge resources, Dr. Hesham Said, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, attended the training workshop organized by the Faculty of Education, Alexandria University, under the title “How to Benefit from the Activities of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) and Access Databases and Knowledge Resources.”
The workshop was attended by Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Dean of the Faculty of Education; Dr. El-Sayeda Mahmoud Ibrahim, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research; Dr. Salem Abdel Razek, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Mohamed Anwar Farag, former Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Alaa Jaafar, Director of the Digital Library Unit; Dr. Walid Ali, representative of the Egyptian Knowledge Bank; and Dr. Hassan Ashary, representative of the Supreme Council of Universities, along with a number of faculty members, researchers, and students.
In his speech, Dr. Hesham Said welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that this workshop represents an important annual meeting for the Digital Library Unit and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank — a pioneering national project that stands as one of the main pillars supporting scientific research and innovation in higher education institutions. He pointed out that the Alexandria University Digital Library is one of the leading projects aimed at modernizing and digitizing university libraries, greatly enriching scientific research by providing advanced digital services and access to up-to-date global resources, enabling researchers to obtain high-quality references and studies easily.
He added that the project contributed to establishing a unified catalog and digital repository for university theses, facilitating research accessibility and exchange among universities, improving research quality, detecting plagiarism, and promoting academic integrity. He also referred to the main challenges facing the use of digital libraries, stressing the importance of investing in infrastructure, intensifying training programs, and updating regulations to ensure optimal use of digital library resources.
For his part, Dr. Hassan Abdeen, Dean of the Faculty, urged attendees to benefit from the workshop, explaining that its goal is to familiarize participants with the main databases provided by the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, their optimal usage, and the scientific journals, e-books, and academic curricula they include across various disciplines.
Dr. El-Sayeda Mahmoud Ibrahim emphasized that the Egyptian Knowledge Bank is one of the largest digital libraries in the world, providing verified scientific resources and comprehensive databases that support scientific research and contribute to advancing the educational process in Egyptian universities.
Dr. Alaa Jaafar noted that the workshop coincides with the World Open Science Day (November 10) declared by UNESCO, highlighting Egypt’s leading role in promoting the culture of open science through the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, which is considered one of the most significant national projects for making knowledge accessible.
The workshop also included a detailed presentation by Dr. Walid Ali and Dr. Hassan Ashary on how to create and manage user accounts on the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, use academic search engines, obtain impact factor reports, check citations, and utilize research tools, software, and international databases available to researchers through the EKB.
