Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science Celebrates Fiftieth Anniversary of Glorious October Victory
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Sciences organized a symposium entitled: “The October War: Fifty Years of Lessons and Glories,” in which the main speaker was Admiral Staff of the Navy Mahfouz Taha Marzouk, former director of the Naval College and one of the heroes of the naval forces during the War of Attrition and October War.
Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty, indicated that this symposium comes within the framework of the integrated activity of Alexandria University in introducing its students to the history of our beloved Egypt and the valor of its men who set an example of loyalty, sacrifice, and dedication. He stressed that the October victory represented a new resurrection, and a victory that changed all the balance of power.
During the symposium, Admiral Mahfouz spoke about the analytical vision of the role of the naval forces in the War of Attrition and the October War, and reviewed the most prominent combat operations in the War of Attrition, addressing the naval military scene, the ambushes and raids of the Egyptian commandos, the variables that affected our naval forces, the Israeli naval forces, and international navies, and the losses of Israel as a result of the actions of the armed forces in the War of Attrition. He also reviewed the most prominent combat operations in October 1973 and the main changes in the naval military scene during the period 1970-1973, and the combat actions of the naval forces in 1973. He also reviewed the results of the 1973 war from a political and military perspective, stressing that the October victory was a pure Egyptian success that ended the frozen regional situation.
At the end of the meeting, the attendees presented some questions that were answered by Admiral Mahfouz Taha Marzouk.
The symposium was moderated by Dr. Osama El-Adly, the faculty’s vice dean for education and student affairs, and was attended by a group of faculty members, supporting staff, and students.
Faculty of Specific Education organizes an educational symposium for students about October Victory
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdel Aziz Konswa, President of Alexandria University, Faculty of Specific Education organized an educational symposium for students on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the glorious October Victory, in which it hosted Professor Mahmoud Awadin, former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, and Professor Fathi Barakat, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Alexandria Camera Foundation for Cultural Arts, in the presence of Dr. Nagda. Ibrahim Madi, Dean of the College, Dr. Amira Zaytoun and Dr. Walaa Bilal, the symposium coordinators, faculty members and students of the college.
In her speech, Dr. Nagda Ibrahim welcomed the audience, explaining that this symposium comes within the framework of the cultural activities organized by the college in conjunction with this great occasion, to introduce students to the heroism performed by the Egyptian army during the war to instill the spirit of patriotism in them and motivate them to work hard to build and advance the nation.
During his speech, Mr. Mahmoud Awadin gave an explanation of the circumstances of the war and the zero hour announced by the Egyptian army to begin fighting, and how the Egyptian soldiers were able to destroy the impregnable Berlev Line, cross the Suez Canal, and occupy a large part of Sinai. He also explained how this victory was a great achievement for the Egyptian army, and a witness to The courage of the Egyptian soldiers. He also explained how the Egyptian army faced stiff resistance from the Israeli army at first, but the Egyptians were able to gradually advance and liberate large areas of Sinai.
Higher Institute of Public Health Organizes Marathon and Medical Convoy on World Heart Day
Under the auspices of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the Higher Institute of Public Health launched a marathon on the occasion of World Heart Day, which is being held for the second year in a row.
Dr. Heba Mahmoud El-Kady, Dean of the Institute, indicated that the marathon was organized in cooperation with the Directorate of Health Affairs, the “Healthy Hearts” Association, and the “Ana Masrawya” Foundation. She indicated that the celebration aims to support World Heart Day, and aims to achieve high awareness among the Alexandrian community, promoting tourism and sustainable engagement with the natural environment in Alexandria, and of course a greater focus on public health and sports.
Dr. Fahmy Charles, Head of the Institute’s Department of Occupational Health and Industrial Medicine, expressed his happiness at organizing an international sports marathon of this size, which confirms the university’s ability to host major sporting events in Alexandria.
It is worth noting that the marathon was followed by the organization of a medical convoy within the framework of the presidential initiative 100 Million Healths, in front of the building of the Higher Institute of Public Health, which included an elite group of distinguished doctors, and provided free examination and analysis services to a large number of residents of the Hadra El-Bahriyya area in Alexandria.
Participating in the convoy were Dr. Injy El-Ghitani, the Institute’s Vice-dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Dr. Nisreen El-Nimr, the Institute’s Vice-dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research.
The 12th Festival of Performing Arts at Alexandria University concludes its work and honors the winning students
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, the closing ceremony of distributing individual awards and distinction awards for the 12th Festival of Performing Arts was held, organized by the Technical Committee of the Alexandria University Students Union in the Conference Hall of the Faculty of Nursing, in the presence of the deans of the faculties and the vice deans of the university faculties for education and student affairs.
The awards were distributed by Dr. Muhammad Bahi El-Din, Dean of the College of Agriculture, on behalf of Dr. Wael Nabil, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs. During the festival, 17 theatrical performances were held in the theaters of the Freedom Center for Creativity, the Anfushi Culture Palace Theater, and the University Theatre, under the supervision of the jury consisting of Dr. Manal Fouda, Professor of Acting and Directing and Head of the Theater Department at the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Sedika Lashin, Professor of Acting at the Theater Department at the Faculty of Arts, and Dr. Dalia Fouad, Lecturer of Decoration at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
The jury announced that the show “Ras Al Ghoul” for the Faculty of Pharmacy won the first place, and the show “Saint-Malo” for the Faculty of Engineering won the second place, and the show “Captain Yahya Al-Nashed Team” faculty of arts won the third place, and the student Ahmed Abdel Rahim - Faculty of Pharmacy won the best director award, and the student Ahmed Ashraf - Faculty of Pharmacy won the award for best actor in a first role, student Elizabeth Naim - Faculty of Engineering won the award for best actress in a first role, student Abdul Rahman Adel - Faculty of Engineering won the award for best actor in a second role, and student Farah Nader - Faculty of Fine Arts won the award for best actress in a second role. And the student Ahmed Helmy - the Faculty of Pharmacy won the best decoration award, and the student Mohamed Salah - the Faculty of Education won the best choreographic award, and the student Ahmed Tariq from the Faculty of Law won the best lighting award, and the student Ahmed Helmy - the Faculty of Pharmacy won the best clothes award, and the student Mohamed Ibrahim - the Faculty of Education won the best music award, The student Nada Haridi from the Faculty of Pharmacy won the best makeup award.
President of Alexandria University Attends Graduation Ceremony of Faculty of Engineering’s 78th Batch
Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University, witnessed last evening the graduation ceremony of the 78th batch of students from the Faculty of Engineering, and the graduation of the first batch of students with a dual degree in cooperation with the University of Essex in Britain and the University of Louisville in the United States.
The event was attended by Dr. Saeed Allam, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Essam Wahba, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Wael El-Meghlani, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering for Education and Students Affairs, Dr. Walid Abdelazim, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Dr. Hesham Saoudi, Head of the Engineers Syndicate in Alexandria, Major General Hazem Badr El-Din, Assistant Commander of the Northern Military Region, Major General Khaled Konsowa, Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces, Engineer Amira Salah, Deputy Governor of Alexandria, deans and vice deans of faculties and institutes of Alexandria University, faculty members, a group of members of the House of Representatives and the Senate, heads companies and organizations, as well as students and their parents.
In his speech, Dr. Konsowa congratulated the graduates and their parents, stressing that this day is the day of crowning their efforts over many years to reach this happy moment that calls for pride and honour. He stressed that Alexandria University is continuing its efforts towards internationalizing education through cooperation with major international universities, explaining that Alexandria University is working according to a strategic vision that seeks development in all its forms, explaining that the university has 52 double degrees so far in cooperation with the best universities in the world and seeks to increase this number in the near future and provide double and joint degrees in all scientific disciplines that benefit students in all faculties of the university, with the aim of achieving competitiveness and internationalization of education, and graduating students capable of competing in the local, regional and international labour market.
The university president highlighted the renovation of faculty laboratories and equipping them with the latest devices within the development plan to emulate prestigious international universities, and to be consistent with the level of programs and scientific degrees signed by Alexandria University with international universities, in addition to providing a scientific environment and encouraging capabilities for researchers and innovators within these laboratories.
In his speech, Dr. Essam Wahba praised the level of graduates of the Faculty of Engineering who have proven their competence through their work as academics in major universities round the world, or as officials in international companies in various engineering specializations, which reflects the efforts of the faculty professors since its establishment until now. Dr. Wahba added that the faculty is currently witnessing comprehensive development in all sectors, as it is witnessing the largest restoration process to restore the faculty buildings to their former glory, and is witnessing an integration project to modernize all the faculty laboratories that serve the undergraduate stage through the unique initiative launched by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, President of Alexandria University. It is also witnessing a comprehensive development of the undergraduate stage regulations through four main axes which are:
- The establishment of three new academic programs, which are the Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace and Space Program, the Electronics Engineering and Nanotechnology Program, and the Smart and Flexible Architecture Engineering Program.
- The second axis includes the introduction of 8 new sub-programs for the first time in the faculty.
- The third axis is concerned with developing the engineering training system in the faculty by introducing the collaborative education system with major industrial companies,
- The fourth axis works to expand international relations by establishing double degrees with major international universities.
Dr. Wael El-Meghlani addressed his message to the students, urging them to be proud of their achievement and excellence, pointing out that the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, is always a place for academic excellence and innovation. He added that graduation is not the end of the journey, but rather the beginning of a new chapter to apply the skills they acquired in the faculty through the ability to think, work as a team, and be determined to achieve goals to face the challenges of the future. Dr. El-Meghlani advised the graduates not to stop learning and to be part of the innovative solutions that society needs.
The new engineers took the legal oath before Dr. Hesham Saoudi, the head of the Engineers Syndicate, who in turn congratulated the students and their parents because they are the true creditors. He also congratulated the heads of Alexandria University for their contribution to preparing new educational programs that keep pace with the rapid change in engineering sciences in particular and all sciences in general. He stressed that the graduates are the ones who will make Egypt's bright future, especially since all economic studies indicate that Egypt will be among the ten strongest economies in the world because of its possession of distinguished natural human cadres.
